Healing through our body

As a somatic practitioner, I spent a lot of time thinking, reading, and talking about brains & bodies.

I think about the structures that we are shaped in and live through, and how those structures plant themselves in the way that we interact with- and carry our bodies through our lifetime. How so much of “traditional” therapy focuses on understanding the why’s and intellectualising our emotions and our experiences.

There’s lots of different benefits to be found in this approach, and/but delving into neuroscience and trauma recovery, really shows us how vast and complex our brains are.

It shows us the importance of imagination, of creativity, and tapping into our dreamlike spaces.

I do believe that there’s a difference between healing through the mind, which helps us to create new perspectives and narratives for ourselves, and a deep, embodied, visceral sense of freedom and liberation from the unwanted believes that have shaped us.

I want to be clear, these 2 are not polar opposites, but can co-exist and help us to BOTH feel and communicate our experiences.

However, a core pillar of my work, is brining our felt senses, our intuition, and creativity to the forefront of our healing work. Time and time again, I see how this emphasis ripples through our lives like a soft, cleansing stream of water.

Affecting the way we see and care for ourselves, affecting the choices we take, and the circumstances (wether personal or collective) we speak up against.

And this is one of many reasons why this work, to me, is also political:

it helps us to see our own potential, our calling in this lifetime, and our role in our collective web.
